Our Team

Dr. Chain obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of California, San Diego. Following her time in San Diego, she acquired her doctorate degree in Chicago from Illinois College of Optometry. She completed rigorous externships in ocular disease hospitals during her final year of school and received clinical letters of excellence in all rotations. In addition to her rotations, Dr. Chain completed a prestigious Residency at VA Long Beach Healthcare specializing in traumatic brain injury and low vision. In addition, she researched age related macular degeneration at Shiley Eye Center at UCSD.  Outside of work, Dr. Paige Chain enjoys spending time biking along the 56 freeway and hiking around San Diego with her family.

Dr. Julia Richardson joined Focal Optometry in 2022. She is a graduate of the UC Berkeley School of Optometry and completed a residency in ocular disease at the San Diego VA. Dr. Richardson is originally from Ohio but loves living and enjoying the outdoors in sunny San Diego with her daughter and husband.

Dr. Chung completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and then received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California. His clinical training includes esteemed institutions such as the San Diego Naval Hospital, Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Arizona, and the University Eye Center in Los Angeles.

Originally from Fremont, CA, Dr. Chung returned to San Diego after completing optometry school. In 2020, he founded Focal Optometry with the aim of enriching the lives of the community and staff through personalized, comprehensive eye care.

Outside of the office, Dr. Chung loves to stay active with exercise, running, and basketball.

Christina joined the Focal Optometry team in 2024 as one of our skilled opticians. Specializing in frame styling, she helps patients find the perfect fit and shape to ensure they leave with the most comfortable pair of glasses that suit their lifestyle. Combining her expertise with a keen eye for fashion, Christina ensures every patient enjoys a personalized and satisfying experience.

Outside of work, Christina enjoys a variety of crafty hobbies, including cake decorating, cross-stitch, embroidery, quilt making, and sewing. She is also an avid board game enthusiast.

Fun Fact: Christina is an axe-throwing master!

Tony Elliott joined the Focal Optometry team in 2023 as our Optical Manager. With an ABO Certification and over five years of experience in the optical industry, Tony brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our practice. His professionalism and strong customer service skills ensure that each patient has a positive and memorable experience during their visit.

Outside of work, Tony enjoys spending time with friends at Korean BBQ restaurants or catching the latest movies.

Fun Fact: Tony has been a dedicated attendee of the San Diego Comic Con for the past 30 years.

Katie is a valuable addition to our team, bringing fresh energy and expertise to our practice. While still new to optometry, she has quickly become proficient with the latest screening technology to assess your eye health. Her skills and dedication ensure that our team has the accurate information needed to make your visit a great experience.
 

Originally born and raised in San Diego, Katie brings a warm and friendly approach to patient care. Outside of the technician room, Katie enjoys reading books and staying up-to-date with the latest Call of Duty games.
 

Fun Fact: Katie lived in Japan for 1 year and has a passion for ice hockey!
