Comprehensive Eye Exam

Your Vision Matters. We're Here to Help.

Seeing clearly shouldn’t be complicated. Whether you’re squinting at street signs or straining to read up close, we know how frustrating blurry vision can be.

At Focal Optometry, we’re here to make eye care simple, informative, and personal—so you can feel confident about your vision and overall eye health.

What We Offer

Comprehensive Eye Exams

You might think, “My vision is fine. I passed the screening at work.” But passing a vision screening doesn’t mean your eyes are healthy.

Think of a vision screening like getting your blood pressure checked—it gives you one piece of the puzzle, but not the full picture. A comprehensive eye exam goes much further.

Here’s what a screening misses:

  • It usually only checks distance vision (visual acuity).

  • It doesn’t test how your eyes work together or how they focus.

  • It ignores peripheral vision, depth perception, and color vision.

  • It doesn’t evaluate the actual health of your eyes.

  • It’s often performed by someone without specific training in eye care.

  • It’s done with basic tools that can’t detect early signs of disease.

A comprehensive eye exam includes:

  • External Exam: Looks at your eyelids, lashes, pupils, and the white of your eyes.

  • Internal Exam: With dilation, we examine your retina and optic nerve for signs of disease.

  • Functional Vision Testing: Depth perception, color vision, peripheral vision, eye movements, and how your eyes focus and work together.

  • Glaucoma Testing: Checks the pressure inside your eyes to screen for glaucoma.

  • Prescription Check: We test your vision with different lenses to see if glasses or contact lenses can help you see more clearly.

We also look at your overall health.

Many health conditions—like diabetes, high blood pressure, and even medication side effects—can show up in the eyes before you notice symptoms. During your visit, we’ll talk about your medical history, family history, and lifestyle to get the full picture.

How often do you need an exam?

The American Optometric Association recommends a comprehensive eye exam every two years for adults aged 18–60, and annually for anyone 61 or older—or more often if you have symptoms or health risks.

Glasses & Contact Lenses

Whether you're upgrading your look or trying contacts for the first time, we’ll help you find a solution that feels right and fits your lifestyle.

Eye Health Management

If you’ve been diagnosed with dry eye, diabetes, high blood pressure, or other conditions that impact your vision, we’ll build a care plan that supports long-term eye health.

Pediatric Eye Care

Kids’ eyes change fast. We make sure their vision is developing properly, and we help catch issues early—before they interfere with learning or growth.
